I have been a Creative Memories Consultant for almost 10 years. One of the joys of being a Creative Memories Consultant was puting together a Scrapbooking Weekend during the summertime in Palm Spring with 2 friends of mine who were consultants. We usually had about 80 ladies that would come up on a Friday and scrapbook until Sunday. We would always have a blast. I did this for about 5 years straight.
The first few years we went to the same hotel each summer. It got to the point that we knew that hotel pretty well. Each year I would share the room with my Mom who would also come up with me. I am a morning person and she is a late night kinda person. So I would always get to bed at a decent hour so that I could get up early to start scrapbooking again. Since I was the one who headed to the room first I would always leave the door to our hotel room unlocked. There was no way that anyone could get in unless they had a key so I was never worried. One of the things I loved about these weekends was that I was able to get away from the craziness in our home of raising 4 little ones. I was able to eat when I want and sleep when I want with no interruptions…. or so I thought.
This one particular year I headed back to our room…. got ready for bed…. turned off the lights and started to fall into that ever so peaceful uninterrupted sleep…. aaahhh…. I was in that in between stage where you are almost asleep but kind of still awake. I could kind of hear someone in the hallway…. then a door opening and then all of the sudden my lights in my room were flipped on. I sat up straight in my bed wondering what the heck was going on and there stood 3 men in their mid 20′s holding their luggage bags with this shocked yet scared look on their faces. It of course scared me to death but I think I scared them more than they scared me….LOL. They immediately stopped dead in their tracks and all 3 of them started saying “I’m so sorry… I’m so sorry” and they immediately turned around to leave my room and they closed the door behind them. OMGoodness… as I look back on it I laugh so hard. I immediately called down to the hotel’s front desk to tell them what happened and they apologized over and over again. Somehow they gave them my room. The Hotel Manager ended up paying for my room for the whole weekend and even gave me 3 food vouchers to cover my food for the rest of the weekend.
It is an incident that I will never forget and still laugh at to this day. So “Note To Self ….. “Always lock your hotel bedroom door” even if you are expecting someone to come in later.”
